Design Tips for Holographic Stickers
Holographic vinyl is a unique substrate. These guidelines help you get the most striking result.
Use white space intentionally
The holographic base is the star. Areas without ink show the full rainbow effect. If your entire design is solid colour, the holographic material underneath becomes invisible. Leave white or transparent areas in your design to let the holographic surface shine through.
Bold outlines work best
Thin lines and small text can get lost against the shifting holographic background. Use bold, thick outlines for text and design elements. At least 1mm stroke width for lines, 10pt minimum for text. The contrast between ink and holographic surface needs to be strong.
Limit your colour palette
The holographic surface already provides every colour in the rainbow. Adding too many ink colours can create visual noise. The best holographic stickers use 1-3 ink colours (often black + one accent) and let the holographic base provide the rest.
Consider solid black
Black ink on holographic vinyl creates a striking contrast. The black areas appear solid and opaque, while the exposed holographic areas shift colour around them. This combination is the single most popular holographic sticker style.
Test with transparent PNG
When uploading your design, use a PNG with a transparent background. The transparent areas will show the holographic vinyl beneath. Solid white areas in your design will print as opaque white — which blocks the holographic effect.
Die-cut is the way to go
Holographic stickers look best when die-cut to the shape of the design. A rectangular sticker with holographic corners visible does not have the same impact as a contour-cut sticker where the holographic base follows the design outline.
