Viking is the birthplace of hockey's legendary Sutter dynasty — the Battle River community where the Sutter family farm produced six NHL players (Brent, Brian, Darryl, Duane, Gary, and Ron Sutter) — the most siblings to play in the NHL in history, from a single Alberta farming family — home of the Sutter Brothers Arena (named in their honour), the Viking Historical Museum, the Viking Ribstone Archaeological Site (a First Nations buffalo hunting ground and bison rubbing stone with 5,000 years of history), and a community named for the Norse explorers by Scandinavian settlers.
