Tumbler Ridge is BC's planned coal town turned dinosaur capital — the community built from scratch in 1981 to service the Quintette and Bullmoose coal mines, which closed in 2000, and remarkably revived after 2000 through the Tumbler Ridge Global Geopark (the first UNESCO Global Geopark in Canada) — where some of North America's best-preserved dinosaur trackways, including the first ankylosaur trackway ever found in Canada, have been discovered in the surrounding wilderness since 2000.
