Tuktoyaktuk is where Canada's road reaches the Arctic Ocean — the Mackenzie Delta Inuvialuit community on the Beaufort Sea coast where the Inuvik-Tuktoyaktuk Highway (opened 2017, the first all-season road in Canada to reach the Arctic Ocean, a 140 km gravel highway across the permafrost) completed Canada's highway network from the Atlantic to the Arctic — home of the Tuktoyaktuk pingos (the highest concentration of pingos — permafrost ice-dome landforms — in the world, designated a National Landmark), the Inuvialuit traditional whale hunting heritage of the Beaufort Sea coast, and a community that became the end point of Canada's road system when the highway reached it in 2017.
