Norquay is the Parkland Region's Doukhobor spiritual capital — the northeast Saskatchewan community where the Sons of Freedom Doukhobors (the most radical wing of the Doukhobor movement) operated communal farms and conducted protest marches in the 1920s-1950s — home of the Norquay Heritage Museum, one of Saskatchewan's finest collections of Doukhobor artifacts including communal bread ovens and the remarkable hand-woven textiles that made Doukhobor craft a nationally recognized tradition — a community where the most radical experiment in communal Christian pacifism left an indelible cultural mark.
