Millertown is the last outpost on Newfoundland's remote Red Indian Lake — the interior Newfoundland logging community on the shores of Red Indian Lake (Newfoundland's largest inland lake, once home to the last Beothuk people in their final retreat from European contact) where the Millertown Dam created the vast reservoir that powers the Bay d'Espoir hydro system — a community accessible only by gravel logging road, where moose hunting and wilderness fishing define the economy and the memory of the Beothuk Nation's final stand is preserved in local memory.
