McAdam is home to Canada's most magnificent railway station — the York County community where the McAdam Railway Station (built 1901 by the CPR for $250,000 — one of Canada's most ornate Chateauesque railway buildings outside of major cities, featuring a turret, slate roof, and sandstone facade) stands as a monument to the golden age of Canadian rail travel — home of the McAdam Historical Restoration Commission (preserving and operating the station as a heritage site and hostel), and a community whose entire existence was created by the CPR's decision to build a major divisional point in the New Brunswick interior.
