Kinngait (Cape Dorset) is the world capital of Inuit art — the Baffin Island community at the southern tip of the Foxe Peninsula where the West Baffin Eskimo Co-operative (founded 1959 by James Houston, who introduced printmaking techniques to the Inuit) launched the Cape Dorset/Kinngait print tradition that transformed Inuit art from folk craft to internationally collected gallery art, with Kinngait Studios artists represented in the collections of every major Canadian museum and the world's finest collections of Indigenous art — home of Kenojuak Ashevak (Canada's most celebrated visual artist, whose Enchanted Owl image is on a Canadian postage stamp), Pitseolak Ashoona, and a community whose art program has sustained an otherwise remote Inuit community for 65 years.
