Grenfell is the gateway to Southeast Saskatchewan's Lord Strathcona heritage — the small Saskatchewan community where the Grenfell Museum (celebrating Lord Strathcona, Donald Smith, who drove the CPR's Last Spike at Craigellachie BC in 1885 and is one of Canada's most consequential financiers) anchors a town that was named for Sir Wilfrid Grenfell, the Labrador physician-missionary — home of the Grenfell Regional Arts Council (one of Saskatchewan's most active small-community arts organizations) and a community where the CPR's arrival in 1882 set in motion Saskatchewan's agricultural settlement.
