Espanola is the Spanish River's pulp and paper heritage city — where the Domtar Corporation's Espanola Mill has been converting Northern Ontario spruce and poplar into fine papers since 1929 — a bilingual Sudbury District community named for a Spanish gold miner who settled here, home of the Espanola Regional Recreation Complex, the Spanish River tragedy memorial (the deadliest train accident in Canadian history, 1910), and the North Channel's eastern gateway.
