Clyde River is the Inuit climate monitoring community on the east coast of Baffin Island — the Nunavut community of 1,000 (Kangiqtugaapik in Inuktitut) where the Clyde River Hunters and Trappers Organization fought and won a landmark legal battle (the 2017 Supreme Court of Canada ruling on the Inuit's right to be consulted on seismic testing in Baffin Bay, one of the most significant Indigenous rights decisions in Canadian legal history) that gave the Qikiqtani Inuit veto power over resource extraction in their traditional territory — home of the Sirmilik National Park northern access and the most northerly year-round population on Baffin Island's east coast.
