Change Islands is Newfoundland's most pristine preserved outport — the remote Notre Dame Bay island community (accessible only by the Fogo Island/Change Islands ferry from Farewell) where the traditional Newfoundland fishing stage architecture, the hand-crafted wooden dory tradition, and the George Barbour premises (a preserved merchant fish premises from the 1800s) make this 200-person community the finest example of undisturbed Newfoundland outport heritage — a community that voted against resettlement in 1967 and has preserved its character ever since.
