Carlyle is Saskatchewan's Moose Mountain gateway — the Souris Valley community at the edge of Moose Mountain Provincial Park (Saskatchewan's oldest provincial park, established 1931, featuring the largest hardwood forest in the province and Kenosee Lake) — home of the Carlyle Lake resort community, the Western Development Museum satellite, and a community that has served as the recreation destination for southeast Saskatchewan farmers since the park's establishment — named for Thomas Carlyle, the Scottish philosopher, by Scottish settlers who admired his work.
