Canso is Canada's oldest fishing port — the tiny Guysborough County community at the eastern tip of Nova Scotia where European fishermen have come to process cod since 1604 (predating Quebec City by a year) — home of the Grassy Island National Historic Site (a Parks Canada underwater archaeological preserve of a 1720 English merchant town razed by French forces in 1744), the Canso Causeway viewpoint, the Stan Rogers Folk Festival (one of Canada's finest folk music events, held annually in honour of the Canadian folk singer killed in 1983), and a community that has been continuously inhabited for over 400 years.
