Cambridge Bay is Canada's High Arctic hub and the administrative centre of the Kitikmeot Region — the western Nunavut community on Victoria Island (one of the world's largest islands) where the Canadian High Arctic Research Station (a federal scientific facility studying climate change, Arctic sovereignty, and northern resources) and the wreck of HMS Investigator (one of Franklin Expedition search ships, lost 1851, its grave discovered nearby) make Cambridge Bay one of the most scientifically and historically significant communities above the Arctic Circle — home of the Iqaluktuuttiaq (traditional Inuit name) cultural programs and the Kitikmeot Heritage Society.
