Bouctouche is Acadie's living literary and natural monument — the Kent County birthplace of Antonine Maillet (winner of the Prix Goncourt, France's highest literary honour, for 'Pélagie-la-Charrette') and the Irving Eco-Centre (preserving the 12 km Bouctouche Dune, New Brunswick's finest barrier dune system) — home of Le Pays de la Sagouine (a theatrical village recreating Maillet's Acadian characters on an island stage) and a community that has turned Acadian cultural pride into a major heritage tourism destination.
