Arctic Bay (Ikpiarjuk) is northern Baffin Island's most remote and most dramatically situated community — the community at the head of Adams Sound (75°N latitude) where the Inuit have occupied the site for thousands of years as the most productive sea mammal hunting ground on the northern Baffin coast — home of the Arctic Bay Historical and Cultural Society preserving the Tunnit (Dorset) and Thule archaeological sites nearby (some of the richest Paleo-Inuit archaeological concentrations in the Canadian Arctic), the Tununiq constituency (one of the most sparsely populated electoral districts in Canada), and a community accessible only by air where the traditional Inuit relationship with sea ice, polar bear, and ringed seal has been maintained with remarkable continuity.
